FAQ
WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
A hackathon is a weekend-long invention marathon. Participants work in teams to create awesome projects from scratch, learn new skills and have some fun along the way! All skill levels are very welcome.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
The Hack Winterthur is open to anyone 18 years or older who is interested in working on creating fun, cutting edge solutions.
WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW HOW TO CODE?
You are still welcome! Bring your expertise. We need product managers, designers, data scientists, business minds, and more! As long as you come willing to learn and ready to contribute ideas, you can contribute to a team.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Thanks to our partners, Hack Winterthur is completely free! This also includes food and drinks.
HOW LARGE CAN TEAMS BE?
Teams need to have from 2 up to 4 members when submitting a project.
HOW DO YOU JOIN A TEAM?
You can arrive solo and meet up with others to form a team at the event, or you can build your group beforehand and come to the event as a team.
CAN WE SIGN UP AS A TEAM?
Participants need to register individually, but you are free to team up with people you already know at the event if all of you are accepted as participants.
CAN I SLEEP AT THE HACKATHON?
Sure! We’ll have gender-separated sleeping rooms available. Please make sure you bring a sleeping bag and sleeping mat with you.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Your laptop, any electronics you wish to use, chargers, comfortable clothes, toiletries and a sleeping mat (if you want to get some rest).
WILL THERE BE FOOD?
Absolutely! Your meals for the weekend will be free and there’ll be plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you energized.
CAN I START MY PROJECT BEFOREHAND?
Only projects started at the hackathon will be eligible for prizes, as it would be unfair otherwise.
WILL THERE BE WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS?
Yes, there will be.
